The most common cause I've seen is water clinging to the side wall of the boat in rough conditions, and of course the position of the vent. I've seen this on boats through the years and sometimes it is a real mystery how it gets in there. Yes, and far more common than water in the vent line. Nov 05, 2019Is it possible for gas not water to get in the air vent when your fueling the boat and it burps and spits up? I think they say not to overfill cars because it can back up into the charcoal canister. Next time I ran boat I opened fill cap after an hour. ![]() I took off fill cap and massive about of air suck into tank. Tom, the last time I filled up after a couple of hours of running the motor shut off. This is the first time I've heard of this actually happening on one of these boats. To get water that high on the sidewall of the boat is really unusual. Now that salt water in the vent line is certainly not normal. It's part of the EPA regulations to reduce emissions. You might hear the same sort of thing on your car or truck. ![]() So, it's normal to hear a little transfer of air when opening the cap. It takes a little pressure to open the valve allowing it to vent out. ![]() The same thing happens with pressure as fuel and air expands in the tank from heating up during storage. When fuel is pulled from the tank it will create a slight vacuum before the valve body allows air to flow into the tank. Nov 04, 2019There is a valve body in the vent lines on that system right at the fuel fill assembly.
